MTCU (mold temperature control unit) using
Do you use MTCU (mold temperature control unit) or not? If you use it what temperature you recommend for production big parts like bumpers, crush pads from polypropylene?

Hi Alexey,
You can use MTCU at your moulds or just using cold water.
It depend from the flow length and your process set up in your molding shop.
But prior to define it you have to have a mould where the mould surface temperature are stable at long run and also your process water temperature stable too.
Generally 20-40 Celsius on the mould surface for unfilled PP could be used depend from the wall thickness.

Thanks Zoltan for your answer. I know that we can use both cases. I just wanted to know how much people use MTCU because we have them but don't use and we work usung direct cooling line.

hi alexey
is recomendation of the supliers of the mold temperature controller and thermoplastic resine is in range of the 340 fareiheit to 410 fareiheit to pp and temperature of the mold of the chiller for 60 fareiheit to 90 fareiheit

Every specific material has it's own recommended mold surface temperature range which will assure proper material flow, cooling, molding stress and appearance characteristics. This should be adhered to. If you are not regulating or controlling the mold temperature, you are not running a stable process. How do you deal with ambient temperature changes? Water temperature settings on the control unit are meaningless. The surface temperature of the molds what must be controlled. size of parts have no bearing on the mold surface temperature temperature.

It is always wise to use MTC for uniform good quality moulding. The medium depends on the temperature and flow. For big moulds you should consult good quality suppliers. They can calculate the correct heat load and recommend the right sized unit. Normally the material supplier should specify the mould temperature range. But then it is important to size the right MTC with correct heat load, pump size for the water or oil flow etc. You can look at Tool Temp in Switzerland. They are one of the largest in the business

TCU will give you better tolerance in production.we tried with and without, with TCU you can have better result and less rejected part.
for PP+HDPM you need surface temp 40-45 degree .but for having controlled shrinkage, you need TCU.
