Hello David,
The price difference between China and US is important, this is why most of American companies outsource their mould making and part production to Asia. I represent the company Fon-Star Group in Taiwan. We have more than 30 years experience in plastic mould making, we have our teams of designers, research and development and quality control allowing us to respond quickly and effectively to your request. We are a mould manufacturer and a plastic injection molding company.
Best regards
Jonathan Aufray

Hi David,
If your product is bulky and small volume like several hundreds, you'd better make it in US since the cost of transportation is big.
If you need to make a consumer product with high volume and care of the cost and quality, better do it in China.
I can't say how much price difference, but I can image it is only 1/3 cost or even less to be made in China vs. US, and the quality of injection molding in China maybe better than US, cause their equipment are more advanced.

David, pricing has so many factors. Cavitation of mold, class of mold (101, 102, 103, etc) and part complexity, are hardened tool steels needed, surface finish requirements, would the molds return to the US or stay in China are just three factors. From your question I'd quickly ask can any of the parts be grouped into a family mold, decreasing the number of molds you would actually need? Should you look at aluminum tooling instead?

Hi David, there is no doubt the prices will be much lower from offshore sources than from US local mold makers, normally is 30%-45% lower or more as prices vary from suppliers to suppliers. Nowadays, it is very normal for a buyer to check prices with alternative suppliers before actual production, and then choose a right supplier, not the cheapest, but a supplier who can just meet your product requirement with an acceptable price and a stable quality and good backup service.
