Did you use MOLDFLOW to simulate plastic parts?
Hi! Do you know how many people use MOLDFLOW software to simulate plastic parts?or How much using of MOLDFLOW software is important in injection molding parts? Regards.

Mold flow does not replace experience and technical uninteresting of part and tool design. When to use it depends on the complexity, the number of cavities and experience. A good analysis is time consuming since it will require iterations of design and gate location adjustments until a balance is reached. Therefor, it makes not sense to perform an analysis just to have colored pictures for the files.
Mold flow is a very good tool if used by experts which can critically judge the results. Most suppliers of technical polymers are therefore offering such services. Unfortunately many analysis are done after the tool has been opened already, thus there is not much space left for improvements.
Conclusion: It's important and can reduce development and adjustment time for more complex projects.

The time to use Moldflow is during product design if left for the mold maker/mold designer it is too late.
As Thomas mentions above it cannot replace experience but can be used along with experience to help validate decisions re gate positions etc etc.

I don't know how many people use MoldFlow. But I use and I can say that's a very important tool. A good analyse can reduce time and costs significantly in the process. It can also prevent problems and you can make the adjustments needed before there's something wrong.

Moldflow is a very powerful tool which eliminates many "Start Up" issues that can be very problematic and time consuming. The fact that you can precisely identify vent locations and high stress areas is very useful. The ability to manipulate gate locations and/or introduce multiple gates to your tool design is very valuable. I have found that after many years of experience, many of the intuitive lessons learned along the way are no longer applicable in today's "High Speed", "High Pressure", "Thinwall" part designs. Another advantage with Moldflow is that the latest materials are cataloged with performance factors that allow the software to have a tremendous efficiency as compared to the actual results in the injection mold.

Actually if the part need mold flow or not, mainly it depends on the complexity of the structure of the part.
Mold flow can analysis the best gate location so that in the process of production can reduce defective rate.

Mold-Flow for new structure complex molds is always popular for the tooling manufacturers, especially for 2-shot molds. which do can save manufacturers much risk, such as machining, improvement after T1 trial out, injection, etc.however,it is a very professional technology, you must have strong knowledge background to share its strength, otherwise,it is nothing special meaning for you.
