Hello Bruno. Magnetic clamping systems for quick mould change can be very useful.

Hello Bruno. Yes. Along with Magnetic Clamping, the use of Smartflow Products to facilitate ejector tie-in, water hook up, and water evacuation, it can be done. Please look at our website smartflow-usa.com and review the duo-flow manifolds, SWAP valve and FasTie products. These are SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) friendly.

Hi Bruno. I worked on a SMED team years ago to reduce mold change times in an automotive factory in Holland Michigan. One thing I remember from this is that the time was defined as the total time from last good part to first good part. As the other contributors have mentioned, there are many ways you can spend your money on quick mold change hardware such as magnetic platens, quick coupling manifolds, etc, but you will also have to consider a coordinated material changeover effort and the purging or cleaning of the barrel for the next part. (Unless of course it is the same material, which would be fortunate). With an ideal set-up, I suppose it could be possible to have a 10 minute change in a machine this size, however, there will be a lot of up front costs associated with it. It may only be worth the cost if you have a lot of mold changes required and are at capacity with your 1000 T machine. Good luck with this! I'd like to hear what you do and how successful you are with the methods you choose! by the way, if you're planning on attending NPE, I'm sure you'll see all the options for quick mold change to get some ideas of which direction might be best for you..

Bruno
Part to Part (assuming preheated mold and no material change) probably an hour. More likely 4 hours.

Changing a 1000T mold in 10 minutes sounds like an accident waiting to happen.
