Seems to me there are two key elements here that you must deal with.
First, due to the infrequent use and low run time, it's obvious that the vast majority of your tool inventory remains shelved for extended time periods. This makes storage critical. Without knowing your current practice, it's hard to comment or provide advice. Maybe you can provide some additional information.
Second, it follows that some form of P.M. must be performed immediately after the mold is removed from the press. You cant let a dirty tool sit on a rack for days or weeks and not expect the gasses etc. to have caused some form of havoc, whether it be pitting or corrosion, for example.
So, what do you do today? I'm not promoting any certain system, but you may want to check out the link below for some ideas. It would be great if you could comment on your current practices so others can join the discussion and hopefully help you develop a robust PM plan.
